Indigenous girls’ choir Spinifex Gum wanted to launch their debut single, Dream Baby Dream, in a way that highlighted the injustices of Indigenous Australia. To this day, they still don’t have a voice in parliament.
We turned the song into an interactive petition calling for change. We started by creating a microsite where any Australian could sing Dream Baby Dream’s chorus into the mic of their phone and add their name. The site automatically mixed the voices into the song and uploaded it to Spotify, creating an anthem that featured a nation.
After the campaign, Spinifex performed their single on the steps of parliament, and handed over the record featuring 20,000 more Australians, all calling for an Indigenous voice.
